Essence Exhibit, Athenaeum Gallery

July 3 - August 10
FREE

Eclosion from my Baroque series was selected for the Essence exhibit at the Athenaeum Gallery, Alexandria, VA.

This exhibition showcases the diverse ways in which DMV artists have captured a person’s (or persons’) essence—the physical and intangible characteristics that define us.

I am honored to be part of this highly competitive exhibit among the 50 artists selected from almost 500 submissions.

Exhibit Duration:

July 3 – August 10, 2025

Closing Reception:

August 10, 2–4 pm

Gallery Hours:

The gallery is open Thursday through Sunday, from noon to four each day.

About Eclosion:

One of my Braoque series, I created this painting to explore the concept of emergence amidst falling. The figure within it represents a state of transition. Forms extending from the figure’s back suggest a development, a breaking free. I positioned the figure in a recline, a posture often associated with rest or contemplation, but here, it indicates the moment of change itself.

The environment around the figure is constructed with geometric planes and lines. I used these elements to define the space and provide a structure that both contains and allows for the unfolding event. The color variations within these planes and on the emerging forms indicate shifts in light and atmosphere. Through this work, I aimed to present a visual representation of the internal and external processes involved in a significant transformation.
