The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (CAH) FY 2026 Art Bank Program has selected my painting, “Unhinged,” as a finalist, following my invitation to participate. It was featured on the screen as part of the DC Art Now 2025 Exhibit, September 11 – December 12, 2025.
We celebrated the opening of the exhibition and honored all Art Bank finalists with a reception to kick off DC’s Art All Night weekend on September 11, 2025.
About Unhinged:
Unhinged is an attempt to relax the viewers, take their minds off daily obstacles, and engage them in a fun visual trick or illusion. Viewers may wonder if it’s meant to be about faces (profiles), plants, or buildings. And it is whatever they want it to be. I used fluorescent pink and light shades of yellow-green (acrylic) to create a soft background atmosphere, then energized it with dangling and upward-growing shapes (spray paint) and fixed-width thinner lines (collaged blue tape). The two futuristic orange spheres (eyes) and the lines (outlines of human or bird heads) interact to generate three whimsical profiles, with only two present simultaneously, depending on which way you look at it—the wave being the mouth and nose or chin for all three.
