“One Missed the Kiss”, 30×40″ mixed media on canvas was selected by Summer Brown, the juror of the Art League’s October 2021 Open Exhibit. Inspired by the fairy tales when the frog is turned into a charming prince by a kiss, here one frog has missed the kiss while the other lucky frog has already marched on as a prince on a white horse. I leave the deeper psychological interpretations of human feelings such as jealousy, joy, sadness, acceptance and rejection to the viewer. Here we see a modernized classical figure of the prince with an exaggerated and “half-finished” arm inspired by the royal commissioned paintings of Louis IV of France by various 17-century artists and later neoclassicist paintings of David. I created the frog using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop then printed and collaged it on the canvas.
