SUMMARY:The Art League - August emBODY Art Exhibit 2023
DESCRIPTION:My painting Actaeon from my Perspective Series (48×36″ mixed media on wood panel) was selected by Ahrong Kim\, juror for the August emBODY Exhibit at The Art League\, Alexandria\, VA. \nI currently also have a smaller painting Harvest Dawn from my Landscape Colorfield series in Gallery 75 of The Art League (same location). \nVisit this art show throughout the month of August any day of the week\, 10 am – 6 pm.\nFew words about Actaeon:\nThis is a painting from my  Perspective Series – a revival of the tools\, namely perspective grids\, invented by Renaissance artists. I first applied this depth-simulation trick to my otherwise intuitive abstract art in 2018. This immediately generated a somewhat surreal look\, asking for more elements of dream-like visuals\, such as stylized human figures. Inspired by Greek mythology—Actaeon the hunter became the hunted\, watching the goddess of hunters\, Artemis (Roman Diana)\, bathing—he was transformed into a stag by the goddess. This story is the iconic motif by which Actaeon is recognized in ancient art and Renaissance and post-Renaissance depictions. I portrayed him as a contemporary superhero while preserving the antique and Renaissance appeal as part of my Perspective series. The sun also plays a vital role in balancing the composition and further establishing the ancient pagan mood (sun worship).

SUMMARY:The Art League September 2023 Open Art Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Quantum Gravity 24×24\n  \nQuantum Gravity from my Perspective Series (24×24″ mixed media on wood panel) was selected by Regina DeLuise\, juror for the September Open Exhibit at The Art League\, Alexandria\, VA. \nThe opening reception is Friday\, September 8\, 6 – 8 pm\nYou may also visit the show from September 7 – October 8\, 2023\, all days 11 am – 6 pm. \nA few words about Quantum Gravity:\nThis is a painting from my Perspective Series – a revival of the tools\, namely perspective grids\, invented by Renaissance artists. My interest in contemporary theoretical science indirectly inspired this. Our understanding of gravity has undergone several facelifts in the past hundred years and is still evolving. Here\, I’ve double-collaged (first digitally and then physically) two digital simulations of 3D sculptures\, one I created and the other a stock image I altered on top of the painted wood panel. The merging of digital and physical paintings reminds me of how scientists try to superimpose macro and quantum physics. I truly grasp their struggle when I deal with simulating perspective while keeping the theme abstract. It is the same type of juxtapositioning that I hope will work and keep altering until it does. I let the viewer interpret the narrative here. It’s all about our perspectives and how they can be so different from reality if there is such a thing as reality.
