SUMMARY:The Art League June 2026 Landscape Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Castle Fields III from my Colorfield series is selected by Jill Basham\, the independent juror of the month\, for the June 2026 Landscape Exhibit\, one of the most popular annual shows at The Art League Gallery\, Alexandria\, VA. \nJoin us for the opening reception on Friday\, June 12\, 6:30–8:00 pm and come earlier to check out my studio (5)\, a few steps from The Art League Gallery at the Torpedo Factory Art Center. \nExhibit Duration: June 10–July 5\, 2026 \n\nAbout Castle Fields III\nMedia: Layered hybrid media (watercolor\, acrylic ink and pigment print) on watercolor paper mounted on a 24×24-inch cradled wood panel (third variation). \nConcept: Having spent most of my life in the DC area with access to significant works by the founders of the Washington Color School\, I’ve closely studied their techniques\, yet deviated from traditional colorist styles in the Landscape collection within my Colorfield series. These works present a dialogue between the structured precision of cartography and the fluid\, emotive qualities of colorfield abstraction. By overlaying rigid\, grid-like structures and “fenced” boundaries onto ethereal\, atmospheric horizons\, I attempt to visualize the human impulse to map the natural world. The vibrant\, saturated palettes create a sense of topographical depth\, yet the bleeding edges and layered transparencies suggest a landscape that is constantly shifting. This tension illustrates the gap between the known and the unknown\, where the comfort of a recognizable landmark dissolves into the vast\, unknowable mystery of pure color and light. \n

SUMMARY:The Art League May 2026 Open Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Dawn from my Spirits series is selected by Jowita Wyszomiska\, the independent juror of the month\, for the May 2026 Open Exhibit at The Art League Gallery\, Alexandria\, VA. \nExhibit Duration: May 6–June 7\, 2026 \nAbout the selected piece:\nDawn\, a layered watercolor and pigment print on a 24×24-inch wood watermedia panel\, is the fifth painting from my Spirits series selected for a monthly exhibit at The Art League. Two previous pieces from this series received Best in Show and Honorable Mention awards and were sold by The Art League. \nThe “Spirits” series fuses figurative and landscape painting through a musical approach—a unique technique employing dense\, filament-like lines (melody) and parallel striations (harmony)\, reminiscent of intaglio or etching. I hope to emphasize environmental awareness with this approach. The veiled figures\, rendered in neutral tones\, contrast with the warm landscape\, symbolizing the ethereal emergence of nature’s guardians and underscoring humanity’s inherent connection to and responsibility for the Earth. \nAs a colorist artist trained by the founders and followers of the Washington Color School\, my practice has evolved from abstract color field painting. I now employ a surreal approach\, introducing elements of reality to explore the gap between the known (recognizable forms) and the unknown (abstract expression). This investigation centers on my “Spirits” series\, in which innovative digital and mixed-media techniques fuse the human figure and landscape\, emphasizing environmental connection. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Hybrid Baroque—in search of new sensoria\, 2026
DESCRIPTION:I was deeply honored to have my recent works featured in a solo exhibition at the prestigious IA&A at Hillyer in DC. This selection\, chosen from hundreds of competitive local and international proposals\, was a significant professional affirmation of my artistic direction\, particularly following the well-attended opening reception\, which garnered many compliments from art lovers and fellow artists. \nVirtual Gallery Guide >\nThe exhibition features works (created between late 2023 and February 2026) from my Baroque series\, inspired by the dynamism and grandeur of Western Baroque and the rich traditions of Eastern miniatures that I have studied since childhood. \nThese paintings are intentionally theatrical. I establish the “stage” through chromatic harmony and movement\, inviting you\, the viewer\, to step into the scene and complete the narrative.  \nArtist Talk\nDuring the artist talk (March 21)\, we dove deep into the concept and process\, and the exchange of ideas with fellow art enthusiasts and creatives was truly inspiring. \nwith moderator and print expert\, Joshua Dunn\nHuge thanks to Joshua Dunn for being an amazing moderator and to the fantastic Hillyer Gallery team for making it all happen. \nDon’t miss out on the exhibit – it’s on display until March 29! \nGo to top\n\n Watch the interview by IA&A at Hillyer >\nDuration: March 7–March 29 \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Minotaur—my first sculpture on display
DESCRIPTION:My very first clay sculpture\, Minotaur\, is on display at The Art League Gallery\, Alexandria\, VA. \nAfter firing the clay\, I painted it with turquoise acrylic for an oxidized bronze effect and finished with bronze oil wax and graphite polish. Huge thanks to my teacher\, George Tkabladze\, for his guidance – and for being a great studio neighbor! \nMain takeaway: Experimenting with different surface media is key\, as the finish is just as important as the sculpture itself. \nExhibit Duration: \nFebruary 18–March 1 \nClosing Reception: \nSunday\, March 1\, 2-4 pm. \n

SUMMARY:Rhythm: Movement in Art\, Annmarie Arts Center\, The Smithsonian
DESCRIPTION:Fallings and Bliss from my Figurative series have been selected for the Rhythm: Movement in Art exhibit at Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center. This marks my fourth consecutive acceptance at this prestigious venue affiliated with The Smithsonian. \nDuration: \nThe exhibition runs from February 13 through April 19\, 2026\, offering you ample time to experience the art and the beautiful gardens. \nAbout the selected pieces: \nFallings\, 48×36″ mixed media—In this piece\, I put floating male figures with vivid orange and teal up against a misty background of pastel colors. The perspective grid is balancing the organic forms. Inspired by the discovery of perspective in Renaissance paintings\, I applied the same tools to contemporary abstract and surreal motifs. There is a mood of freedom and an adrenaline rush at the same time. \nBliss\, 24×24″ mixed media—about the joy of putting behind a shattered past—preservation or deliverance from harm\, ruin\, or loss. I’ve used a solid wooden artboard and various media and tools\, including initial digital studies\, stained tissue paper (collaged)\, acrylic paint (brush and spray)\, pastel\, stencils\, and sanding\, to achieve the unique look and feel of this painting. I allow the viewer’s imagination to tell the narrative.

SUMMARY:Hill Center Galleries 2026 Regional Juried Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Delphic\, from my Figurative series\, is selected by the independent juror\, Claude L. Elliot\, for the 2026 Regional Juried Show at Hill Center Galleries\, Capitol Hill\, Washington\, DC.\nThis marks my third consecutive year in this prestigious exhibition\, following my Best in Show award in 2024. \nThe exhibition runs from January 21 to May 2\, 2026 \nAbout the selected piece: \nLayered water media on a 24×24″ water media wood board\, Delphic is a tribute to Eva Palmer-Sikelianos\, merging ancient and modern themes. The central figure exudes 1920s sophistication and classical poise\, set against a vibrant backdrop of abstract botanical forms. The composition is intersected by red grids\, reimagining the traditional loom as a construct that blends history\, nature\, and the future into a single enigmatic moment.

SUMMARY:Best in Show—The Art League January 2026 Open Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:I am thrilled to start the year with a Best-in-Show Award and a sale before the opening! \nUnbound (diptych) from my Spirits series was selected and chosen for the first-place Best-in-Show Award in the first open exhibit of the year at The Art League Gallery\, juried by Xenia Gray. It was sold before the opening reception—a second pre-opening sale from this series in two months (see details on the previous event). \nVisit Monday-Sunday\, 10-6 pm during the exhibit: January 7 – 25\, 2026 \nMy own studio (#5) is a few steps from the Art League Gallery and is open to the public Friday-Sunday afternoons. \nAbout the selected piece:\nUnbound is the third piece from my new Spirits series\, selected for The Art League Gallery’s open exhibits two months in a row (click here to read more). In Unbound\, I experimented with the composition by splitting the painting into a diptych\, thereby breaking its continuity to reflect the title—unbounding with the past and moving forward. The full narrative is left to the viewer’s interpretation\, as I always invite the viewer to finish the story by delving into the ambiguity. \nThe “Spirits” series fuses figurative and landscape painting through a musical approach—a unique technique employing dense\, filament-like lines (melody) and parallel striations (harmony)\, reminiscent of intaglio or etching. I hope to emphasize environmental awareness with this approach. The veiled figures\, rendered in neutral tones\, contrast with the warm landscape\, symbolizing the ethereal emergence of nature’s guardians and stressing humanity’s inherent connection and responsibility to the Earth. \nProcess: \nI’ve used a hybrid\, analog-digital-analog process in all these pieces\, consisting of digitally merging and manipulating images of analog studies\, printing on archival art watercolor paper mounted on a wood carded panel\, and painting over with mixed media\, including watercolor\, pastel\, ink\, and acrylic\, sealed with cold wax or spray varnish.

SUMMARY:Honorable Mention—The Art League December 2025 Open Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Canyon Bride from my recent series\, Spirits\, was selected and won an Honorable Mention by the independent juror\, Amy Waldrop\, for the Art League’s December 2025 Open Exhibit. I was very excited about this selection\, as this was the debut of the Spirits series outside my studio. \nConsequently\, the first edition of Canyon Bride was sold at The Art League Gallery even before the opening reception. Since the buyer was traveling\, the gallery had to remove it\, but they kindly allowed me to replace it with another painting from the same series. Visit The Art League Gallery to see Crimson Pass and walk to my studio (No. 5) for several other paintings from my Spirits series. \nCrimson Pass 24×24\n  \nAbout the selected pieces: \nThe veiled figure rises from the landscape\, symbolizing the ethereal emergence of nature’s guardians and underscoring humanity’s inherent connection to and responsibility for the Earth. The “Spirits” series fuses figurative and landscape painting through a unique technique employing dense\, filament-like lines and parallel striations\, reminiscent of intaglio or etching. I hope to emphasize environmental awareness with this approach. \nThe Art League December Open Exhibit will be on display from December 11 to January 4. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Chronicles: Storytelling Through Imagery\, Annmarie Arts Center\, The Smithsonian
DESCRIPTION:Craning the Net from my Figurative series has been selected for the Chronicles: Storytelling Through Imagery exhibit at Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center by the juror Elizabeth Dale-Deines\, Public Programs Manager at the National Air and Space Museum. This marks my third consecutive acceptance at this prestigious venue affiliated with The Smithsonian. \nThe exhibition will run from October 10 through January 18\, 2026\, offering you ample time to experience the art and the beautiful gardens.  \nAbout Craning the Net: \nA mixed media—spray paint\, watercolor\, acrylic\, charcoal and collage on a 20×60” canvas in which I combined an abstract female form and the net (left and below)\, resulting from spray-painting over a fishing net and a more representational male figure and construction tools on the right (charcoal and collage). It depicts the constant human struggle to make ends meet. Meanwhile\, a grander landscape appears with an optimistic energy on the horizon\, symbolizing hope.

SUMMARY:DC Art Now 2025
DESCRIPTION:The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (CAH) FY 2026 Art Bank Program has selected my painting\, “Unhinged\,” among its finalists\, following my invitation to participate. It is featured on the screen as part of the DC Art Now 2025 Exhibit\, September 11 – December 12. \nWe celebrated the opening of the exhibition and honored all Art Bank finalists with a reception to kick off DC’s Art All Night weekend on September 11\, 2025. \n  \nAbout Unhinged: \nUnhinged is an attempt to relax the viewers\, take their minds off daily obstacles\, and engage them in a fun visual trick or illusion. Viewers may wonder if it’s meant to be about faces (profiles)\, plants\, or buildings. And it is whatever they want it to be. I used fluorescent pink and light shades of yellow-green (acrylic) to create a soft background atmosphere\, then energized it with dangling and upward-growing shapes (spray paint) and fixed-width thinner lines (collaged blue tape). The two futuristic orange spheres (eyes) and the lines (outlines of human or bird heads) interact to generate three whimsical profiles\, with only two present simultaneously\, depending on which way you look at it—the wave being the mouth and nose or chin for all three. \n

SUMMARY:Retrospective Solo Show – Patterned Nuances
DESCRIPTION:I am honored to have been invited to showcase a solo exhibition at the Iranian-American Community Center as part of Patterned Nuances\, a three-artist exhibit featuring works by Iran Davar Ardalan\, Sookkyoung Park\, and my own. \nMy section includes 33 pieces created between 2015 and 2025\, presenting a retrospective look at my artistic journey over the past decade. This exhibition showcases how I have expanded my main series by transforming linear divisions into perspective cuts\, thereby generating my color fields within a simulation of depth. The majority of the works are drawn from my most recent collections\, specifically from 2023 to 2025\, as my collections have become more diverse in recent years. \nThis exhibit is open to the public daily from September 7 to October 5\, 10 am – 6 pm.

SUMMARY:The Art League August 2025 Open Exhibit—Awarded
DESCRIPTION:Stretch from my Figurative series was selected and awarded an Honorable Mention by Jessica Randolph\, the independent juror of The Art League’s August 2025 Open Exhibit. This painting is also featured by East City Art\, a leading voice in documenting and promoting the city’s thriving visual art culture. \nThe exhibit will be on display from August 7 to September 7\, open daily throughout the week. I will be happy to welcome you to my own studio (#5)\, steps away from The Art League Gallery\, if you visit Thursday through Sunday in the afternoon. \nAbout the selected piece: \nStretch is mixed media: pastel\, acrylic\, ink\, collage and pigment print on a 36×36″ wood panel. Here\, I present a male figure in a state of physical extension\, adorned with patterns inspired by African body art and batik fabrics. The figure’s skin displays a mosaic of colors and designs\, reminiscent of various African tribal adornments. This detailed application on the figure contrasts with the background elements\, which feature bold colors such as lime green and fuchsia alongside architectural or abstract lines. The title ‘Stretch’ refers to the figure’s pose\, and also acknowledges the ongoing resilience and endurance required amidst current hardships and conflicts present in parts of Africa. The painting combines traditional artistic influences with contemporary elements.

SUMMARY:MFA\, The Power of Color 2025
DESCRIPTION:Castle Fields\, from my Colorfield series\, was selected by John Wellington\, juror of the Maryland Federation of Art (MFA) The Power of Color Art Exhibit\, Summer 2025\, at the Circle Gallery in Downtown Annapolis. \nI am excited to be among the 55 artists selected from 533 entries and at the heart of one of my favorite art-loving cities in the Mid-Atlantic\, Annapolis. \nDuration: July 30–August 23 \nClosing In-Person Reception: Saturday\, August 23\, 4–6 pm \nConcept: \nAs a colorist\, all my works pivot around color. However\, the Colorfield series is mainly characterized by intense color with a broader spectrum.\nSpending most of my life in Washington\, D.C.\, with access to significant works by the founders of Washington Color School\, I’ve further developed colorist and color-field styles by introducing familiar forms or complex abstract expressions.\nIn this painting\, I employed versatile contemporary media to achieve a diverse range of layering techniques.

SUMMARY:Essence Exhibit\, Athenaeum Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Eclosion from my Baroque series was selected for the Essence exhibit at the Athenaeum Gallery\, Alexandria\, VA. \nThis exhibition showcases the diverse ways in which DMV artists have captured a person’s (or persons’) essence—the physical and intangible characteristics that define us. \nI am honored to be part of this highly competitive exhibit among the 50 artists selected from almost 500 submissions. \nExhibit Duration: \nJuly 3 – August 10\, 2025 \nClosing Reception: \nAugust 10\, 2–4 pm \nGallery Hours: \nThe gallery is open Thursday through Sunday\, from noon to four each day. \n  \nAbout Eclosion: \nOne of my Braoque series\, I created this painting to explore the concept of emergence amidst falling. The figure within it represents a state of transition. Forms extending from the figure’s back suggest a development\, a breaking free. I positioned the figure in a recline\, a posture often associated with rest or contemplation\, but here\, it indicates the moment of change itself. \nThe environment around the figure is constructed with geometric planes and lines. I used these elements to define the space and provide a structure that both contains and allows for the unfolding event. The color variations within these planes and on the emerging forms indicate shifts in light and atmosphere. Through this work\, I aimed to present a visual representation of the internal and external processes involved in a significant transformation. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Pink Thread Exhibit at Tyson's Galleria
DESCRIPTION:Quantum Gravity from my Perspective series and Fallout from my Figurative series have been selected for Pink Thread\, a pop-up art exhibit based on D.C. WorldPride’s “The Fabric of Freedom.” \nThis is a good place to see how local artists express their quest for freedom and support for the LGBTQ+ community’s ongoing fight for equality\, visibility\, and justice. \nExhibition duration: Wednesday\, June 11 – Wednesday\, August 27 \nWhere: Neiman Marcus Cafe -1st fl\, Neiman Marcus\, Tyson’s Galleria\, VA\n\nAbout the paintings\n\nQuantum Gravity:\nMy interest in contemporary theoretical science indirectly inspired this. Our understanding of gravity has undergone several facelifts in the past hundred years and is still evolving. Here\, I have double-collaged (first digitally and then physically) two digital simulations of 3D sculptures\, one of which I created and the other a stock image I altered on top of the painted wood panel. The merging of digital and physical paintings reminds me of how scientists try to superimpose macro and quantum physics. I truly grasp their struggle when I deal with a simulated perspective while keeping the theme abstract. It is the same type of juxtaposition that I hope will work and keep altering until it does. I let the viewer interpret the narrative here. Hint: It’s all about freedom of expression.\n\nFallOut:\nExploring the space between landscape and figure\, through “Fallout\,” I aim to add layers of curiosity. The title potentially suggests the outcome of an event or a state of change. I hope it prompts viewers to consider the relationship between humans and their cultural\, traditional\, or altered and alienated environments.

SUMMARY:The Art League April 2025 miniMAX Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:My miniature painting Fractum Terra\, from the Colorfied series\, was selected and awarded an Honorable Mention by Elaine Qiu\, the independent juror of the month for the April 2025 miniMAX Exhibit at The Art League\, Alexandria\, VA. This painting was sold the day after the opening and replaced by Fractured Land from the same series. \nVisit the gallery any day of the week from 10 am to 6 pm for this unique art exhibition\, where the sizes of the displayed art contrast in extremes. \nI also have several pieces on the wall and in flat files in the adjacent Gallery 75\, located within the same venue. My studio is only a few steps from The Art League Gallery. Come and see me if you are visiting for the weekend. \nAbout both paintings: \nIn paintings of this series\, I’ve evolved the traditional color field paintings characterized by the Washington Color School\, which I studied in depth\, into compositions with quasi-perspective grids and elements of nature and architecture as color fields that push them towards somehow recognizable landscapes with a hybrid process—acrylic and ink on pigment print of digital art on heavy art paper mounted on wood.

I am excited about being featured at the heart of one of my favorite art-loving cities in the Mid-Atlantic\, Annapolis. \nDuration: March 26–April 26 \nClosing In-Person Reception: Saturday\, April 26\, 4–6 pm \n  \nConcept: \nNature and plant life reclaiming abandoned buildings have been a particular source of inspiration for this painting\, which connects with our environmental consciousness. White lotus flowers grow in a flooded abandoned bar or perhaps in mid-air\, as there is no clear ground\, just abstract reflections and refractions—the void between what is recognizable and the unknown. The viewer is invited to fill in the gaps. \nMedia: \nMixed media: watercolor\, ink and pigment print on water media wood panel
