SUMMARY:Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art\, Made in VA Biennial 2026
DESCRIPTION:Prey from my Baroque series has been selected for the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art’s Made in VA Biennial 2026 exhibit and is currently featured on the museum’s website. This is a true honor for me\, especially since I received the following remarks from the museum’s senior curator\, Heather Hakimzade\, in her announcement email: \n“This year\, Made in VA received an unprecedented number of applications and reached our submission capacity for the first time in the exhibition’s history. The jury process was incredibly competitive\, and your work stood out among an exceptionally strong group of submissions from artists across the Commonwealth. \nOpening reception: September 10\, 6:00–9:00 pm \nExhibit duration: September 11\, 2026–March 21\, 2027 \n\nAbout the selected piece:\nPrey (mixed media on 30×24-inch wood panel) reflects on victims of immigration and individuals confined to predefined gender identities\, trapped in the web of established institutions. The overly decorated trap is guarded by a green\, half-spider\, half-insect creature that both depicts the intricate\, often deceptive allure of oppressive systems and symbolizes the pervasive nature of societal judgment.

DESCRIPTION:Where: The Art League Gallery\, Alexandria\, VA \nOpening Reception: October 9\, 6:30 pm \nExhibition Duration: October 7 – November 8\, 2026 \nFeatured Work: Moonrack (mixed media—watercolor\, ink\, acrylic\, pastel\, and pigment print on 24×24″ water media wood panel) from the Architectural series \nI am excited to announce that Moonrack from my Architectural series has been selected for The Art League’s October 2026 Open Exhibit by the independent juror\, Paul Sattler. \n\nAbout the Artwork\nOne of the Blue collection within my Architectural series\, Moonrack is an imaginary scenery combining a structurally impossible construction over water\, a full moon\, thunderbolts\, and pristine versus corroded surfaces—serving as color fields and ultimately achieving a chromatic experience. I have taken numerous photographic studies of surfaces near water at different times of day\, digitally altered and combined them with my analog sketches\, and then pigment-printed them on watercolor-type archival paper. I then worked on the print with watercolor\, ink\, and pastel\, making it unique and not an edition.
