My painting Escape from my Architectural Series was selected by Susan O’Neill for the National Juried Art Show Out of the Blue presented by Gallery Underground, Arlington, VA.
If you miss the opening, you can visit Mondy through Friday before August 25, 2023, 10 am – 6 pm
As a colorist artist, I constantly seek concepts and compositions to expand my color fields beyond the traditional flat abstract or geometrical forms. Using depth and some depiction of reality serves well as a chromatic playground. Initial architectural sketches were born out of my Perspective series. While simulating 3D structures on my computer and tablet as studies, I realized some of the attributes of digital art are more expressive. So, I started printing and adhering certain areas as collages to my artwork. Then I began digitally infusing the images of half-finished paintings, adding digital layers and further painting again over the prints. Therefore, they are one-of-a-kind and not printed editions with many layers of paint on top of the initial inkjet print.
Escape, selected for this national juried art exhibit, is one of the three paintings I’ve done with abstracted architectural forms where blues dominate the foreground and warmer colors are pushed to the background. This reverses the academic notion of warm colors in front and cold colors in the horizon and creates an unexpected composition that works well as a color field painting.
